GOLE ALACANTARA, Sicily. 14th August 2011
My cousin Fiorella picks me up this morning and takes me out for a Granita and Brioshe with two friends....Mariella and Pino. From here we join a group of other friends and make our way to Gole Alacantara for the day.
These are Basalt Cliffs or a ravine (66ft) cut out of black basalt by the rushing waters of the Alacantara River. The water here is icy, but managable to walk through. Perhaps some are brave but not I. Lunch was at a kiosk near by before returning to a near by Villa on the coast of Stazzo where Fiorella and three other families had hired a Villa for a month and a half. Here I finally catch up with Nuccio, her husband.
The 14th of August is a holiday and celebration, so that we did this evening with a floor show by Fiorella, Mariella, Pino and Suzi. The Sicilians know how to let their hair down and this was pure entertainment with a few laughs. Even my Auntie Mary Pulvirenti from Australia and cousin Nello arrived in time for the show.
After the show it was time for dinner...a BBQ. Unfortunately I feel Australians when it comes to BBQ's are one step ahead. Still it was about the company rather than the food. There was one exception...The Gelati and the biscotti were excellent or as the Italian's say Buonissimo.
It wasn't long before I tired, so I dismissed myself and wished all Buona Notte...
By the way when we come together for meals its Buon Pranzo, Buona Cena, no longer Buono Appettio....Its called Fashion!
