Another wonderful day. We set off quite early today for a trip around the Lofoten Islands, which are a group of about 300 islands off the Norwegian coast. One thing you can say for the Norwegians - they build fantastic bridges and tunnels and the bigger islands are now all connected in one way or another. The entire population consists of about 35000 people, surrounded by the most fantastic scenery. There are fjords, mountains and lakes, so tourism plays a big part in the economy, but, the biggest wage earner is fishing. The locals catch the Arctic cod which comes to the area to spawn each year and they air dry it for a couple of months before selling the dried flesh. Apparently most of it goes to Italy and Spain.
We had a lovley lunch and lots of time to wander around the various stops, so loads of photos again. For some reason you can only upload one for each Blog entry, so anyone who wants to see them will have to wait until we get back. It's a fantastic, relaxing holiday and tomorrow we move on to a place called Bronnoysund where we have another "extended" trip to the World Heritage site of the Vega Archipelago.
