We stopped in Barcaldine for a pint and to look at their 'Tree of Knowledge' which was where the Labour Party first started, holding rallies under it. Unfortunately, in 2006 the tree was poisoned and died but the trunk + branches have been retained. Above the trunk an artist had suspended wood to make a replica of what the canopy would have looked like and as the wind blows the wood acts as wind chimes.
We ended up staying at the Ilfracombe Pub because the weather man said that there was a huge thunderstorm on its way but, it never came. It was nice to stay at the pub though coz we had heaps of washing to do. We had a great feed and watched some drunk people attempt a few bar tricks that the bar staff had set up for them. We also noticed that there was a heap of money stuck to the ceiling and when we asked how it got up there the staff said it'll cost you $5 and you can put your own money up there. All the money on the ceiling goes to the Royal Flying Doctors so we thought "ok, no worries we'll have a go". The bar staff handed me a drawing pin and said that I needed a $2 coin too!! (getting expensive) then I had to put the pin through the fiver, put the coin on top and scrunch the note around it all and chuck it at the roof. The pin & note should stay up there and the coin will come back down…..AND if I catch the coin I get a free pint. How hard could it be?!? :-S
After watching some other people attempting it, and failing, I nervously gave it a go….and succeeded!! …but didn't catch my coin so no free pint for me. It was a lot of laughs and at least the money goes to a good cause.
