It took a couple of days for the bad weather to bogger off so we bunkered down at a scout camp just outside Bundaberg. Once it was looking a bit better we ventured off to Bundy….stopped at the Bundy Rum Distillery to see the 'Big Bundy Bottle' but we decided not to actually do the tour coz we thought "seen one distillery seen 'em all". We've seen the Bushmills Distillery in Ireland so we thought we'd skip this one, plus neither of us like Bundy rum (I know, how un-Australian)….besides, we found out that it is no longer Aussie owned so pppffttt to them. Anyways, we decided we'd do the Bundaberg brewery instead, where they brew Ginger Beer etc and which is still Aussie owned haha. It was sort of aimed more at kids but it was still fun with interactive displays and at the end of the tour you get to sample all 16 of the drinks they make.
We had planned to do a surf lesson in Agnes Waters and were really lucky because we got awesome weather. The surf lesson was $17 for 5hrs!! where we learnt the basics of surfing and even managed to stand up a couple of times. Lot of fun….we will definitely be hiring a couple of boards if we go to a 'beginner friendly' beach sometime with baby waves J
From Agnes we headed to the town of 1770 to see where Cpt Cook landed on 24 May 1770. There is just a memorial there to signify the landing.
We camped the night in Eurinbula National Park for a couple of days….did some fishing and chilled out ….oh and got annihilated by sandflies. It was our first encounter with sandflies and we hope it'll be the last!!!... They are the size of fleas and bite and then itch insanely for about a week….oh my god, never again camping near sandflies.
Besides the sandflies the camp area was pretty decent J
