Claire's Travels
So we are back in Buenos Aires - we got back 4 days ago. Its been great because we have just been chilling, shopping and eating in our favourite restaurants!
Well this will be by final journal from South America. Its hard to believe that 2 months have gone. Times flies when you're having fun!
To sum it up...actually thats really hard to do. Its been a real eye opener. The places we have seen and been have been absolutely amazing! From Buenos Aires where you could easy be in a European city, to the small Andean Communities in Peru; the changes we have experienced from one day to the next have been huge. I will definately be back here in the future.
Now to round things up I thought that I would provide some handy hints for anyone considering heading to this fantastic continent. So here I go.....
1. When they say direct journey...it wont be. You will end up changing at least 3 times and taking a very 'scenic' route to your final destination.
2. Snacks. These are extremely essential for long journeys...and just general day to day grazing. However it is important to check the sell by date on everything as there is nothing more gutting than biting into a chocolate bar to discover that something doesnt taste quite right...which may have something to do with the fact that it went off in 2004. It happened to us on quite a few occasions and ruined coach journeys...you need something to keep you going for 18hrs or so!
3. Zebra crossings. They are evident all over South America however they dont have quite the same use as the British ones. You find them at most traffic lights. Basically dont ever assume just because the little green man is saying that you can cross, he means you can actually do it safely. Cars seem to keep coming no matter what the colour of the lights are. There have been a few near death experiences over the last 2 months. All part of the travelling life though!!
4. Speaking the language. (This is more of an issue in the taxis.) No matter how much you try to pronounce the places etc correctly, they will just look at you as if you have just made up words...and then they will echo you, giving you the impression that they are really working with you, trying to understand what you may be trying to communicate to them, when in fact the word is pronounced just how you said it!!! Really fustrating after the 20th time!!
Well thats it for here! Speak to you all in New Zealand!!
