Claire's Travels
Obviously for insurance purposes I had to get a statement from the police and as I didnt fancy my chances in Colonia I decided to get it sorted in Buenos Aires, assuming they would be used to it. Well what a cafuffle that was! We went to the police station down the road and after we straightened out the fact that we werent asking to take a picture of the police station but in fact that I had lost my camera, they explained that I had to go the police station in the district I had lost it ( I had to say I had lost it at Asia de Cuba).
So off we trundled to the port to the other police station ( this was getting to be a habit, 3 stations in the space of 24 hrs) The last police station had written a note explaining what had happened which was helpful. I presented this to one of the officers and luckily one of them spoke english. After sitting there for about 30mins, there was only one computer in the whole station, it was finally my time to discuss the issue of my camera. The officer said that without the receipt they couldnt write me a statement because there was no proof of me ever having one. I told them that why would I be carrying round a receipt for a camera that I had had for 2 years! It took them a while to get this but eventually they wrote me the statement.
So the moral of this story is to always carry around every receipt of anything and everything you have ever bought!
We had a chill out evening and watched Austin Powers, Garden State and Love Actually with some of the guys in the hostel - it was desperately needed!
