Claire's Travels
After a fair few days of walking around the shops, we are now bored of them and crave some touristy sites again!
We decided on a trip to Recoleta Cemetary. Well it's a fairly strange experience. When you enter the area, it's as if you are in a mini town as there is row upon row of what look like small churches and grand houses. This was to be expected to some degree as the people buried here are past Prime Ministers, Generals and just the generally rich and famous.
What's slightly creepy is the fact you can actually peer into most of them and see the coffins and pictures of the dead. Some of them are really well keep, others on the other hand seem to be used to store ladders and paint - you would be a bit miffed wouldnt you if that was yours!
One of the reasons we came was to have a look at Eva (Evita) Peron's site. You would think that they might have thought to label or sign post it, but no they havent. If we hadnt taken a trip to the loos we wouldnt have found a map indentifying several of the graves, including Eva's.
It just so happened that the day we visited was her birthday. I would like to claim it was planned but that would be a blatent lie! Compared to the majority, her crypt is small and plain, but nice all the same.
The place is certainly worth a look round if you dont get creeped out by places like that - I dont think Tash loved it!
