It's been a while since the last blog. Reason being things didn't go exactly to plan re the boat fit out and the trailer construction. Any way all is well that ends well and we finally hit the road about midday today.
We had expected to leave Lincoln first thing this morning but that was before we tried to hook the boat on. We had towed the boat down to the ramp twice over the last few days but once was with Shaun from Boat Supplies ute and the other was using Tim's Landcruiser. Seems they both have a tow bar suitable for a Alko trailer hitch. Problem was our ute didn't but we were none the wiser until we went to hook it on last night.
Tim came to the rescue when he suggested a visit to Aussie Engineering, the tailer specialists of Port Lincoln.
Perhaps if we'd known that they would have the exact coupling required to rectify the problem, and that my brilliantly handy son in law, Tim would have the skills and knowledge to replace the problem hitch with the more basic but infinitely more functional part, we would have enjoyed far more sleep last night.
Anyway as I said, all is well that ends well and following an uneventful trip to Venus where we filled up with water at Hanno's shack and a stop off at Streaky to top up with groceries and Berry's Dry Red we arrived at the beautiful Perlubie Beach about 5:30pm. Camped a few metres from the high tide mark we spent a great night with Hanno and Stelleen and a few of their fellow beach campers Roger, Cheryl, Colleen and kids sampling some of the delicious razor fish collected by the Hannan's over the last 3 days and enjoying a couple of drinks as the sun set over the bay. Free camping spots don't get much better than this but we aren't the only ones to have heard about Perlubie.
Tea of Port Lincoln Nannaghi topped off a pretty special first night on the road.
