Enjoyed an early morning walk and swim before packing up camp. 10:30 departure from Perlubie and next stop Smokey Bay.
Smokey is a quiet fishing village with a thriving oyster industry. At least it used to be quiet. We saw about 100 boat trailers at the ramp and dozens of tinnies spread out all over the bay. Number plates in the car park indicated the vast majority were "interstaters" cashing in on the whiting available (at least for now) in this beautiful bay.
I've always maintained that it was the pro fisherman that did the damage to our fish stocks but to see amateurs in these kinds of numbers challenges that view. It is blatantly obvious why the government has had to bring in possession limits and good on 'em for doing so.
From Smokey it was on to Ceduna where a retired truckie came to the rescue re our leaking air bags. A quick crawl under the boat saw him identifying the deflated air bag and rectifying the problem connection.
On crawling out from underneath he then proceeded to give me a one on one tutorial on air bags. Feel much better about the whole set up and should now be at least able to get us out of strife should a similar problem occur again.
From Ceduna we traveled on to Penong where we reunited with Karen Murray, an ex Henley High girl and Principal of the school. They don't come any better than Karen and the half hour with her and some of her beloved students was a highlight. Karen has worked at the school for her entire career and is a credit to our profession.
From Penong we pushed on to just short of The Head of the Bight where the Hannans found a quiet bush camp a k or so off the main road.
And so another day ends with us camped on the Nullabor and another 430km closer to Exmouth.
