Woke to a magnificent sunrise. Short drive into Kalgoorlie after quick trip around Kambalda this morning. Reminded us of Roxby Downs. Had a day of sorting things out and shopping in Kalgoorlie. Staying in Prospector Holiday Park. Quite ok but makes you appreciate how good it is camping in the bush. Ready to head off first thing, hopefully with trailer airbags functioning properly. Camped in the National Park near Cocklebiddy on the Nullarbor last night. Drove in about 2km from the road and found a great spot in amongst the bush. Left our bush camp relatively early for us (9:00am) Had a thoroughly enjoyable drive across the most barren section of the Nullarbor. Our day was punctuated with several short detours to quite spectacular vantage points that provide amazing views of the Great Australian Bight. Enjoyed an early morning walk and swim before packing up camp. 10:30 departure from Perlubie and next stop Smokey Bay. Smokey is a quiet fishing village with a thriving oyster industry. At least it used to be quiet. We saw about 100 boat trailers at the ramp and dozens of tinnies spread out all over the bay. Number plates in the car park indicated the vast majority were "interstaters" cashing in on the whiting available (at least for now) in this beautiful bay. ...
