Not much to show for today. We visited the Barbara Hepworth Gallery Museum and Sculpture Garden which is in St. Ives. She was a fascinating woman who had many talents but eventually settled down to focus on sculptures both small and large. She worked with stone, wood, bronze and clay. We drove to St. Ives today and on the way detoured to visit Newlyn and Mousehole. Wandering around we found a plaque with a story indicating there was no love lost between Newlyn and Penzance. In 1937 the Penzance Town Council started to clear the houses from Newlyn for a redevelopment. A group from Newlyn left by sea to petition Westminster to have it stopped. A great little seaside village with a natural harbour at the mouth of the Fowey river. As with most of these villages it has narrow streets, old Mediaeval buildings, a working harbour, a museum, tea shops, pubs, art shops etc. While there are a number of harbour and river cruises on offer we did not do any of these instead choosing to wander the streets, visit the museum, visit Daphne du Maurier's exhibition and have something to eat and drink. Today we headed for the St. Austell area and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Again our GPS system wanted to take us on a weird route but we are learning to ignore some of the directions. In fact some of the websites of the places we visit warn us to ignore GPS systems directions and take other routes as we get closer. These gardens were rediscovered about 25 years ago. Drove over to St. Agnes on the coast to do a coastal cliff top walk. There are plenty of them to do down this way. Had a bit of trouble finding the start of the walk but eventually got there. It was a really nice day and great walk although we did not go as far as we would have iiked. The path got a bit too close to sheer cliff drops for Bruce to continue but we had done a fair bit of it.
