We had arranged to have breakfast this morning at 9.00am. We were up and sat outside before this watching the boats going back. The manager came to our room and asked if we'd like to go on a morning walk through their small farm/garden. We went with her, they grow a lot of their own produce which they cook their meals with. They had all sorts but the one I was most impressed with was their pineapple plant which had a pretty big pineapple growing on it, they just look so wrong growing like that! They also had some small boxes which she said had honey bees in. When we'd finished the walk it was just about time for our breakfast, after breakfast we asked the manager about where and when we would get the bus to Kottayam train station. She said just outside at 11.00am there would be a bus going to Kottayam. We started to get our bags ready when she rang us back to say that there would be no buses running to Kottayam today because the bus driver was the man that passed away. So she arranged a tuk tuk to take us instead. It didn't take too long to get to the train station, once inside we bought a ticket but weren't sure where exactly we should be sat so when we got on the train we just found a space and hoped for the best. The journey was just over two hours long so we definitely wanted a seat. We had to pay a little extra when we were on the train to sit where we were but it wasn't much. We actually managed to get really good seats near some young Indian people, a couple of lads from the Indian Army, one of which was going to Varkala and a girl who was a GP. The journey went really quick as we had them to talk to throughout. The girl's English was excellent and the lads were pretty good. With one of the lads going to Varkala it was a lot easier to know when we had to get off the train. After getting off we got a tuk tuk straight away to our hotel. The place was really nice and it was new this year so pretty modern too, our room has a double bed and a single bed so plenty of room in it. We left our stuff in the room and then went out for an explore of Varkala. It's a pretty simple place, you just walk towards the cliff top, turn right and there is a strip of shops and restaurants and turn left it leads down to the beach. I think so far this place has the most white people we have seen so far. We walked down the strip of shops and restaurants, it was better than Goa in the way that you could actually look at a shop without getting hassled! Much better. The strip was really long but there was all sorts to look at, we decided to get some tea seen as it was about 5pm and we hadn't had anything since breakfast. We sat upstairs at a restaurant for over an hour and had something to eat. We walked back to our hotel and chilled in the evening.
