We had thought that we would perhaps head out to the UN for a visit this morning but with a generous 11am checkout we had a lazy start watching some BBC news & enjoying a leisurely breakfast. At 12.20 we were taking a Paddle Steamer ride around Lake Geneva so we checked out, went to get our tickets then went for a walk up to the Cathedral which had archeological ruins underneath. With restricted time we decided not to pay 8CHF to go in but popped our head into the main church. Nearly time for our cruise we waited at the jetty & then stepped on board the SS Savoie built in 1914. The cruise was an hour forty which we spend some of sitting in the beautiful sunshine on the front deck. We went as far up the lake as the French border then turned around & headed back to the jetty past the Jet l'eau spurting water into the air on one side & crowds of sunworshippers sunbathing like a colony of seals on the other. Being 2pm we were more than ready for lunch so headed to The Lord Nelson Pub for fish & chips (although the fish was like little bits of herring) washed down with some brewed on premise beers in a 'sample paddle' (actually a very impressive stand with copper arms to hold each glass). Much tastier than the beers in Bern. I did a bit of shopping, although didnt buy anything, at some nearby shops before we headed off in the direction of Manor Food for some train dinner, then the hotel to collect our bags & to the station to pick up our tickets then wait for our train to Lyon. Being Friday & peak hour the platform was crowded & everyone surged forward when the train arrived. We were lucky to get a seat & it was a stuffy ride to Lyon with the train picnic having to wait. Arriving into Lyon we had a short walk to the hotel where we checked into our rather small room (more so badly designed) & finally had our roast chicken & salad dinner. Even though its still bizarre how light it stays until late we had a quiet evening in ready for a big day exploring Lyon & watching the Tour De France tomorrow.
