Brenton Kovacs's Travels
This would have to be the shortest travel day, about 1.5 hours in a bus to do around 100ks from Frankfurt to Heidelberg.
Well i have to say that i can see why Heidelberg is such a popular destination for Germans and tourists. Such a beautiful and peaceful town filled with some stunning old buildings and ruins, like the Heidelberg Castle.
There are aslo some nice hikes to the top of the hills either side of Heidelberg, both of which offered some stunning views of Heidelberg and the valley. The hike to Königstuhl was the most demanding hike. Once you leave the town there are a few ways to get to the top. All are easy but one. This one is a staight path all the way up, with rocks acting as stairs. Now i am not the fittest person, but when you get passed by an old fella in his late 60's or early 70's i had to lift my game. So for the next half an hour i followed this guy who did not stop to rest. When we finally made it to the top he turned, spoke to me in German, shook my hand and off he walked. He was one fit man. So i sat and took in the stunning views of the valley below.
Heidleberg also has a pedestrian only mall that is meant to be the longest in Europe, 1.6ks long. It is really nice to stroll along here as there are plenty of stalls selling Gluhwien and sausages etc.
Even the weather has been good, every day was sunny and cool, great for walking.
I was impressed by the Castle, such a magnificent structure, even in its unrepaired state.
Next stop is Bratislava, Slovakia.
