Another beautiful day! Sunny and warm. We started the morning with breakfast at Juan in a Million's (from DDD). Larry had the famous breakfast taco, which is better explained by checking out the picture of his taco...what I would call a "big-ass" taco. I opted for 2 smaller tacos, one with eggs and dried shredded beef, the other with cheese, tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, and, of course, eggs. The chips and salsa (a breakfast starter!) were awesome...of course, I have never met chips and salsa that were bad...well maybe a time or two! I forgot to mention that we actually started our morning at the fitness center burning the equivalent of 2 1/2 chips. After breakfast we headed toward the capitol and took a tour of the beautiful red granite building. Of course, we saw Bushy's picture and Rick Perry's, and unfortunately Johnson's portrait. We were very impressed with the small details such as the engraved door hinges (see the photos). On the way back to our car we were entertained by a cop on a bike who was able to balance at a red light without putting a foot down. Now that is talent! The Longhorn campus is just a few blocks away and we enjoyed that. Larry said it would not be good for an Auburn fan to buy a Longhorn T-shirt so I settled for 2 T's for the grand boys. The UT color is one of my fav's. We skipped lunch (can you believe it?) and headed to San Antonio. We toured the Alamo and took a short stroll on the Riverwalk. San Antonio, like Tybee, allows you to "drink and walk." We preferred the sit and drink method of downing a cool brew. The Riverwalk is decorated for Christmas, so before dinner, Tex-mex again :), we took a narrated river cruise to see the lights. Very nice! There were several boats that had school kids caroling. Very cool! We have discovered a "travel trick." Some hotels have discounted walk-in rates, so we walked into the hotel where we had a reservation and asked if they have a walk-in rate. They did and it was $90 cheaper for our two nights than was available online...and I am pretty good at finding online specials! Can you believe that???? They gave us a beautiful corner suite with a view of the Riverwalk. We went to the room, called reservations and cancelled our original reservation. Perfect! We are relaxing in our suite and watching the Duke game. Looking forward to more of San Antonio tomorrow!
