Wow! What a day! First of all, we awoke to blue skies after a rainy, gray Sunday. Today we drive from Lafayette, LA to Austin, Texas for the first stop on the Dining Tour. We stop for an early lunch in need of a Tex-Mex fix. No need to mention where...they are everywhere! Man...I miss that stuff! Some of you know that I was very disappointed that I didn't get to buy some "s***-kickers" in Phoenix when we went to the National Championship game in January...Larry is well-informed that I WILL be finding boots in Texas, so...what do you know...the Texas Boot Company is right on the Interstate on our way to Austin. I get instructions to make it quick because we have to get to the Salt Lick BBQ (our dinner destination) before dark. No problem...I am tried-on and purchased in 10 minutes or less. There were about 200 pairs of boots in my size (seriously!) but I knew what I wanted and closed the deal! I am now properly outfitted for our dinner at the Salt Lick. They served beer and margaritas to soften the wallets! We check in at the Omni and head toward Driftwood, Texas (20 minutes outside of Austin). It is early and since the Salt Lick is BYOB and cash only, we are armed and prepared. We soak up the atmosphere over a Crown for Larry and a Jameson for Bonnie, not to mention the bottle of vino as a back-up. Bring on the Q! We order the combo plate...pork ribs, sausage and brisket, sides of potato salad, cole slaw and beans, pickles, onion and jalapeños! It exceeded all expectations. Larry converts his dinner to the all-you-can-eat entree and they bring more of the same! We finish dinner with a shared dessert of blackberry and peach cobbler ala mode (Blue Bell, of course!). We are truly in a food stupor and miss our off-ramp, not once, but twice. Oh well, it was all worth it. I notice I left the camera connector in the car so will have to download pictures in the morning. We registered our email address at the Salt Lick which entitles us to a mail order discount. We are definitely among those who live to eat, not eat to live! We will need to hit the treadmill with vigor tomorrow. Larry put a check mark on his Bucket List tonight. We start all over tomorrow!
