Having visited the birthplace of the ancient Olympics as well as the Barcelona 1992 venue for the summer Olympics this year we were excited to learn more about the winter Olympics. We spent a couple of hours at the Lillehammer Olympic Museum this morning learning even more about the Olympic movement - we enjoyed the exhibition of the recent Olympic torches, including the 2012 torch that we saw in Guildford and we watched the speeches at the Opening Ceremony in Lillehammer 1994 talking about the Balkans war devastating Sarajevo (where the winter Olympics had been successfully held just 10 years before) and something we were all able to piece into modern history after our recent trip to the Adriatic.
It was a beautiful day and so we headed up the hill to the Olympic ski-jumping venue and were lucky enough to witness numerous young, intrepid ski-jumpers flying thorough the air, reaching fantastic distances on the year-round slope. It was amazing and very inspiring to watch - particularly as it appeared to be their PE lesson!
We knew we had a drive to do though and so headed off to Oslo mid-afternoon to arrive at a water-side pitch in time for a water-gun fight before dinner and a lovely evening of games in the sunshine before bed.
