We had big plans for today but we awoke to the familiar sound of thundering rain and unfortunately it seemed to get worse not better as the morning went on so we decided to change plans and head for the museums today as hopefully the forecast for the weekend is a lot better.
We put on the waterproofs and cycled into the city. I love the ability we have had to cycle in practically every European country we have visited so much more easily than you can in the UK, but this cycle path was next to the city ring-road on a rainy day so although we were also cycling at the water's edge (and it was a lot more beautiful the next day in the sunshine) it wasn't as enjoyable as it might have otherwise been and we were all grateful to get off the bikes and leave them at the harbour.
We headed for the Nobel Peace Centre to find out more about the Nobel Peace prize and the ideals that the prize represents. M&D followed the children's trail and it provided an excellent introduction to some of the prize-winners with activities all the way around making them think about why "Speaking up matters". It was a fascinating exhibition and I could have spent much longer but by early afternoon we were ready to move on - although the visit was still provoking questions on into the evening on topics that we would never have discussed without this stimulus.
After the Peace Centre we headed for the famous Opera House to climb to the top and enjoy the views over Oslo before heading for the Tourist Information Centre to try and make plans for Fathers Day - fairly unsuccessfully - but at least we found ice-cream and cake.
By the time we headed back to Bob the sun was out and we managed to enjoy another beautiful evening at our aire - if only Daniel hadn't fallen in the water!
