We drove to Gudvangen this morning to cruise the fjords... We were excited about World Heritage-listed Nærøyfjord, surounded by mountains, waterfalls and narrow valleys but somehow it didn't manage to live up to our expectations and we're still trying to work out why. I suspect it was a combination of the grey day and the gale blowing around us; the throngs of tourists we shared the trip with who seemed more excited about feeding seagulls chocolate biscuits than the scenery or possibly it just is that as Megan says, 'one fjord is much like another' and we have been enjoying the splendidly dramatic scenery since arriving in Norway nearly a week ago and so it didn't wow us as much as if we had headed straight here. It was dramatic, and it was beautiful, but after nearly 3 hours of cruising we were pleased to get off that boat and back to Bob to drive through the 'worlds longest road tunnel' (apparently) which took us almost all the way to Laerdal and our campsite for the night.
