This wonderful place gets compared to Gibraltar because it is a huge rock connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway but I think that is probably where the similarities end really. I liked Gibraltar, more than I thought I would but this was so different.
You stand on the mainland and you look at a huge rock rising out of the sea and you have no idea what lies out there. Even as you walk across the causeway and up the road you have no idea, it's just a rock. Then you enter through this tiny doorway and you are in another world, a really magical world. I loved it. I was trying to find a photo of the day but there were too many and none did it justice.
The photo here is of us walking down from the upper town to the winding streets of the lower town and spotting a pod of dolphins in the water playing just off shore (another Gibraltar similarity I guess!) but there are so many - the narrow, cobbled streets with beautiful shops and cafes....tiny hotels hidden around every corner, the stunning sea views, the magnificent mountain views, the colourful spring flowers, the inquisitive lizards, the ancient olive trees, the twisting paths, the intriguing rooftops...
We had a fantastic day wondering around this special place and I hope to return again and stay on the rock next time....there was no way we were getting Bob up there this time for the night!
