For some reason I think we were a little unsure heading for the capital of Greece today, crossing 8 lanes of traffic to catch the bus, and after being warned about the pickpocketers in Athens (apparently worst than Paris!) it felt like we spent the day clutching our belongings and looking at everyone very accusingly on the metro but we had no reason to be unsure, Athens was great.
Admittedly we had a whistlestop tour, focussed mainly on the Acropolis as despite my best attempts I couldn't manage to convince a tour company to step outside when rain was forecast..... but the Acropolis was wonderful.
We started at the Acropolis museum and this was a great museum - even M&D would agree that this was done well and they have seen a few museums this year! The huge windows looking out onto the rock and the layout of the museum helped us to imagine the ancient site and meant that we really were able to appreciate what we were seeing - and the family backpack helped us all understand the stories of Athena.
We spent a few hours exploring the Acropolis and enjoing the views from the top before the selfie-taking commenced and it was time for a very late Greek lunch and the bus back to the campsite. I found myself wondering whether we should try and find more time to explore Athens further.... but then this is the most expensive campsite of the trip so far... and we still have to drive out of this crazy town so perhaps another day, without a motorhome.
