Two entries on one day! So after our morning adventures, we couldn't possibly leave without seeing what this Oktoberfest was all about. First thing to note is that during the festival it appears that 80% of regular local Germans like to dress in traditional get-ups... Ladies look like servant girls and men in leather pants. Those not dressed this way are actually in the minority.
So we went what is like the Melbourne showgrounds but it's bigger. Oktoberfest is not just about drinking, it's a lot like Moomba, just bigger - Carnival rides, shooting games, a lot of ghost train rides, families, teenagers and then, there are drunk adults. So within the grounds there are massive beer halls overflowing with people. There are live bands playing traditional German songs and village people covers. We entered a hall about 8.30, knowing they stopped serving about 10 and enjoyed the spectacle of watching everyone else. We managed to polish off two of those ENORMOUS beers each, met some lovely Germans, left the hall and went to another bar and met more lovely Germans.
This morning my body is reminding me that I don't really drink over two litres of beer in one sitting so I'm moving a lot slower today as we head to Zurich. A lot slower!
