After dropping my parents off to the airport, we drove to Whangarei (pronounced Fangeray) and set up camp for a few days. The campsite was really nice and had a nice pool to cool off in - result!
We drove down to the dive centre and Ant booked in for the next day, to dive Poor Knights Island. The next morning I dropped him off for the day and headed back to the campsite. I just spent the day reading, sunbathing and updating the website and generally enjoying some me time.
Meanwhile Ant was doing a couple of dives with a cool crowd of people. He said it was really good and absolutely freezing compaired to everywhere else we've been but I think he's now dived in every place that we've been and he's loving it still.
After Whangarei, we drove to Whatuwhiwhi (probably fatafifi? We don't ask anymore because we normally pronounce everything wrong here lol) mainly because we liked the name. Turned out the campsite there wanted to rip us off so instead we drove to Tokerau beach and found a bit of a grotty campsite to stay the night, but for a reasonable price. We went for a long walk along the beach and then had a nice bottle of red whilst cooking our dinner on our gas stove in the sunshine - Bliss!
Ant wanted to go right up to the very top of the North island, so we drove to Cape Reinga where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific and there is a beautiful lighthouse. We stayed over night in Ahipara and then the next day headed to Dargaville. There was nothing to see in Dargaville and we just went for a really long walk on the beach.
We headed back to Whangarei for a night and went for a walk into town, stopping on the way back for a cuppa and a nice bit of cake (we all like a bit of cake dont we!?). I got chatting to a really sweet 70 year old guy from Birmingham at the campsite who comes to NZ every year for 6 months all by himself and sleeps in a tent! He said he might have been interested in our van so he came to have a look the next morning. Luckily he did, because he noticed that the WOF (warrant of fitness) was up and we wouldn't have been able to sell it at the car market on Sunday without it! Doh...
We headed back down towards Auckland and booked the van in for the WOF, which they passed with nothing needing to be done, thank baby Jesus!
Then we spent the evening getting drunk outside the van in Clarks beach and had cheese on toast for dinner - because we can and it was (hopefully!) our last night sleeping in the camper. Then we headed to Kellys house in Auckland and cleared out the van ready for Sunday.
