Our last day on Symi has crept up toooooooo quickly!
Needless to say, as it was stinking hot, most of it was spent at our favourite spot, Nos Beach, a small beach only 5 mins walk from 'home'. With a personal beach umbrella and sunbed, the water one pace from the foot of the sunbed, and deep water only 3 meters from shore, paradise! The guy running the sunbeds also has the tiny (only) taverna on the beach, so yes, we indulged in the just made fish soup, dolmades and real tomato & cucumber salad as the water lapped at the short wall separating us from the fish!
More wind today, so the one km swim seemed like 2 on the way from, better on the way back.
Packed before dinner, and a promenade of the harbour checking out the boats in overnight on our way to Stratos' Trawler Taverna. His wife cooks, and we love her food, he and 2 rather gorgeous sons front of house. A final supper of white beans with artichoke and lemon, aubergine imam and chicken souvlaki.
As Emily pointed out, it is exhausting doing nothing, so here we are home and set for bed at 10.15pm!
Symi is a dream spot, made so by extraordinarily hospitable people, most of them from the island. While tourism is certainly a major source of income for the community over the summer, at least most of the 'locals' are from here, not the UK or moving in for the summer from Rhodos to make a buck. Am sure that will change... in the meantime, enjoy!
