Wow, absolutely no ripples in the water this morning, the water the warmest we have had. After the routine morning swims and canoe paddling, I had a trip back to town with Fatih to collect our stamped passports allowing us back to Greece and am sure it was a very sophisticated look reading the English papers in the dinghy on the 20 minute return trip to Tanem - up to date with Lindy Chamberlain, the only Oz news!
We headed to a beautiful isolated, nameless bay on Symi for most of the day all cliffs, a spectacular winter waterfall & summer rock climbing challenge, pebble beach and a tiny Greek Orthodox Church. Only entry to the bay is by water.
Most of us spent plenty of time in the water - the usual suspects declined, and Mary swam from shore to the boat just with aid of a noodle.
Lou and I went on a canoeing adventure, finding a tiny restaurant on the shore 2 bays away - the only building on the entire beach. Our Captain told us it was a nudist beach, but the only couple of people there fortunately had their clothes on - weren't good specimens!
We sailed from the bay around to Gialos, the main town on Symi.
It is gorgeous here, a neat old town around a bay and up the hillside, most buildings in great repair, a muddle of houses up the hills with rows of tavernas and shops along the waterfront, stone bases of old windmills on the brow of the hills. One bay around is the boat building harbour, then beautiful swimming beaches. The first with the obligatory line of 'rent a subbed & umbrella' then subsequently little rock paths down the scrubby hillside to crystal clear turquoise waters.
I am coming back here for awhile after our trip, so sussed out the old Merchant's home we are renting - it's cool!
The discovery of the day was Anthony and Lou's - a shop where you put your feet in water tanks of small fish that eat the dead skin on your feet!!! Hilarious! Anthony demonstrates the technique on today's blog photo.
Much research into the venue for dinner, deciding on Pandelis, directly opposite our boat's gang plank. We got there at 10pm, the food excellent, local Symi shrimps, whitebait, extraordinary in size and taste seafood marinara, and a dish of squid in ink. We popped to the boat for wine as we required - civilized indeed.
Ah.....another highly satisfactory day in Paradise!
