On Friday I checked into my hostel before it opened, so I slept in the lobby until my bed was ready, then slept a little more. I was waiting for Barry Rivera to get there, but the hostel they originally booked didn't have space so they had to scramble and find a place-impossible in Sevilla during Semana Santa but they did.
After my nap, I went into the city center to take a look around, stopping at the Royal Gardens and Plaza de America on the way. There was a big line to get into the cathedral, so I thought it must not be open a lot so I waited to get in. I was one of the last people inside, then they shut the doors and didn't admit anyone else—I had randomly become one of the few that got to watch the processions from inside the cathedral!
The processions came in one side and left from the other, pausing to pay homage at St. Mary's Cathedral along the way. I watched a couple come through, and I talked to the lady next to me (native of Sevilla) and she told me all about the cathedral, processions and city. After that I grabbed a bocadillo and met up with Barry and his friends for the night.
On Saturday we met up again, some of Barry's friends were actually staying in the same hostel with me and we met up for breakfast, but we met up with all the others a little after noon. I checked into my other hostel—I had to get 2 different ones because neither had all 3 days open when I booked! I changed my bus ticket to get back to Caceres on Sunday rather than Monday, which was great because I had some time to recoup and get homework done.
We toured the city on Saturday afternoon, the best part was touring the Cathedral- the second largest in Spain- and going up the tower for a great view of the city. I went to Easter Vigil there too, all 2.5 hrs of it, but it was awesome to be in such a big Cathedral for candlelit Mass. We hung out on my hostel's terrace until early morning (no need to disclose what time… ) because Barry, Sara and Briana's bus left at 6 am. I got a little sleep then went to Mass, this time it was traditional Spain Mass, half hour, got breakfast and headed to the bus station. Got home on Sunday, barely unpacked before packing again for Pais Vasco!
