Wahey, finally caught up with all my missing blogs.... Sorry about the delay, I just waited too long and then putting them all in felt a little daunting!
I arrived in Cairns last Thursday and bumped in to a couple of girls I'd met before. Went up to the shopping centre with them for a bit of wonder and my first shopping session (only mini!) to get something new for our first night in the famous Gilligans for ladies night. Free champagne for all girls followed by a pole dancing competition can never end well.... And it didn't! But still a brilliant night and a great first look at the Cairns party lifestyle.
This is where I begin to lose track of the last few days so I will have to give you a little summary of everything that's happened....... I really must start writing things down again! It's not too bad when you stay in once place for a couple of days because you can normally piece it together, but once you get towards the week mark it becomes a struggle!
There's been many lagoon trips this week, many of them trying to refresh our heads after the previous night out!!! When the weather is nice it's a gorgeous spot just to chill out, and generally you bump in to everyone there at some point or another, so it's nice and social too.
The best night award has to go to Saturday night.... not for the amount of alcohol, just for the sheer fun factor (courtesy of Tami and Ron Weasley) which involved a whole lot of dancing, humiliation, tuk tuks, peacock dances and pencil dances... 9 solid hours of partying has gotta be a record.
Unfortunately it came at a price..... I think staying in a party hostel, not eating enough, and not sleeping enough has taken it's toll on my body. Monday evening I started to feel a little bit rough but by Tuesday I had a very high temperature, flu, cough, cold, sickness bug, the works.... It wouldn't be so bad had this not been the day I was supposed to start my 5 day prodive PADI course for the great barrier reef :( I've spent pretty much every day since then in bed all day... Not what I wanted! Unfortunately now I haven't got enough time to do my course. They've offered me a 4 day course started tomorrow which is similar but the boat trip is shorter and you don't get to do the full amount of dives. After speaking to someone who has done the 5 day course, he's insistent that it's not worth wasting the time doing the 4 day - if I'm going to do it, I might as well do it properly. The way I'm feeling at the moment I still don't think I'd be able to pass the compulsory medical that you have to do to complete it. Although I feel a lot brighter that I did, I still have very blocked sinuses and that's not what you need when you're already having to retrain yourself to breathe differently underwater. Having never deep sea dived before, I think it may be best that I miss it completely (although it SUCKS to say that!) as I don't think I'd be confident diving knowing that it could be a problem. Knowing how much I love this country I have no doubts that this will be the last time I'll be here.. So I think I'll be waiting until next time for my dive course. I'd rather do it when I feel totally well instead of wasting the money and not enjoying it fully. I'm debating doing a days diving if I feel better next week so I at least get to see the reef while I'm here as you can get some fairly cheap last minute deals.
BUT remaining positive! Before I came down with it I had a day trip to the Atherton Tablelands with 'Barefoot tours' which was brilliant fun. The main highlight of the trip is going to the Milla Milla falls which is famous for being the scene for Peter Andres Mysterious Girl video, and also where they do the "hair flick" Herbal essences advert. So, naturally, plenty of pictures of me attempting to look just as sexy as they make it look in the ad.... Hmm, not so sure on that one!!
I'm in Cairns for a little while longer yet as I was meant to be out on the boat so not sure yet how I'm going to fill my time, but I'm trying to enjoy the nice weather before I head to the land of ice (New Zealand!)
If I do not get better soon someone is going to get hurt.... I am in the party capital of Australia for goodness sake! :( I can hear the goon calling me...... Amy x
