Arrived in to townsville on the afternoon of the 5th May and jumped straight on the ferry over to Magnetic Island. I hadn't heard too much about the place other than that I'd got the whole trip for free with oz experience... So I wasn't going to say no to that!

Once I'd got the bus to the hostel and got settled, there wasn't a lot of time left in the day to do anything major. I just had a quick explore of the area (it didn't take long!) and then found a few people to talk to over my (free!) dinner. There weren't a whole load of shops close by so it was nice for once not to have to worry about the cooking! I planned on having an early night but was convinced otherwise by someone I met at the hostel who got half price drinks at the bar... Can't say no to that!

In general you need a car or a bus pass to explore the island. A lot of people went off and rented things yesterday but I was shattered and there didn't seem to be a whole lot to do around the island, so I used to opportunity to soak up the rays by the pool and just had a very relaxed and lazy day. You couldn't really get much closer to the beach either... The whole setting was gorgeous.

In the early evening I headed to the local pub with a few brummy boys just for a quick drink. I also felt like I should probably see a tiny bit of the island even if it was just the walls of another beverage distributor!

This morning is a totally different setting weather wise so it's a bit of a miserable view.. I'm heading out early though to go in to townsville just for a night. Heading back to the ferry now! Amy x
