Arrived in Brisbane last Wednesday (10th April). I'd been told a lot that Brisbane wasn't really worth a visit but my first impressions proved totally the opposite!! The city had a really nice vibe to it and its the first place where I have felt that I could stay longer.
After checking in mid afternoon I took a stroll around the town and checked out the recently renovated town hall which has a little museum inside too all about the history of Brisbane and big events in its history. I'm not normal a museum kinda gal but I have to say I actually enjoyed this one! And anything is better when it's free.... Right?? In the evening the hostel held a pj party pub crawl starting on the roof terrace including a pub quiz at the tin bar followed by a visit to the classic down under bar. My team managed to nab ourselves a $50 bar tab for coming second in the quiz so took full advantage of that of course!
Unfortunately as I'm writing the blog a week later my memory of Thursday is not all that great. Think I just had a lazy day catching up on much needed sleep!!
Fridays weather was a little bit miserable but I didn't want to waste the day so a guy from my hostel took me around the botanical gardens to see the cliffs at kangaroo point. I also had my first look at Southbank but unfortunately the rain didnt really do it justice... So I popped to the art gallery and science museum next door just to have a little look around. Got in really well with Gemma from my dorm, so we decided to have a goon filled evening on Friday again back at down under! Naturally that meant Saturday was written off so we just had a mega lazy day eating rubbish including maccy s's and the first cheesecake of the trip... Can't complain!
We got up early on Sunday to take a trip to lone pine koala sanctuary near Brisbane. Managed to get my typical travel piccy of me cuddling a koala so I was a happy bunny! We also splashed out and got snake and eagle cuddles too, though they weren't quite as cute. The park is small but good value and very chilled, so a really enjoyable day. Also managed to feed the kangaroos, hold a chick, hang with the farm animals and meet my first tazzy devil and dingo too. After an interesting night out to victory that evening we decided that Sunday probably isn't the best day to go out in Brisbane... Still had fun though and still managed to waste most of Monday as a result! The weather was good to us so we spent the afternoon down at Southbank soaking up the sun along with another hungry jacks to wash away the goonover....
Tuesday was my last full day in Brisbane so I decided to get the bus up to mt cootha lookout where you can see a view right across the whole of Brisbane. The buses are a bit restrictive though and it's the kinda place that you really only need about 20 minutes at, so I used my extra time just to sunbathe looking out over the views and watching the world go by. Met up with Laura from home that afternoon (hungry jacks number two) - lovely just to sit and catch up :)
As it was my last night of course another trip to down under was required.... Ended up sat in the botanical gardens almost till sunrise this morning... Oops! The lack of sleep wasn't really helpful when I realised I missed my bus this morning because I got the times wrong. Bit of a caffufle but a few phone calls later and I've managed to get on to a bus at midday today with no extra charges :) next stop gagaju bush camp! Amy x
P.S written all of this out three times now and keep deleting it accidentally. Think there's bits missing but will add if I remember!
