Arrived in Agnes water about 6pm on Saturday evening (27th April) and I was taken to beachside backpackers. It all seemed very quiet in the hostel and from what I gather this time of year is a very quiet season for them. Most people skip them and just do the big stuff in the winter months so little towns like this are just bypassed. It's a shame really, because often by doing that you can miss out on things that you may have loved!
Went to grab a bite to eat from the 'town centre' with the girls in my room (about ten shops!) before heading back to the hostel for some goon time. For a Saturday night it wasn't particularly heaving! Bit of a shame but still nice people about.
On Sunday morning I left the hungover beings glued to the sofa and headed down to check out the beach. Very secluded and peaceful and the weather cleared up nicely too :) I booked the 'scooteroo' tour for the afternoon. It's a three hour sunset tour on motorbikes (sort of) around the town of Agnes water, heading over to 1770 to watch the sunset. If anyone has seen the pics on Facebook you'll know that it's done in style... They give you firey leather jackets and tattoos so you can really act the part! So to anyone panicking about the large red rose on my neck.... Don't fret, it's only temporary (For now!!)
I got up early Sunday morning (a bit of a struggle after a late night film fest) to do a surf lesson down at the beach. 3 hours for $17 - the cheapest on the easy coast! Brilliant fun but the waves were a wee bit strong so I've got some gaaawjus bruised everywhere now. I was slightly more successful than spot x thank god and actually managed a few lots of standing up :) spent the rest of the day chilling at the hostel before getting the greyhound to Rockhampton in the evening (note - Zak and Miri)
Unfortunately I won't actually get to see Rockhampton - due to hostel pick ups and check in times I ended up staying at a hostel in emu park. And I'm sooo glad I did! Proper beds, plug sockets galore, full length mirrors..... Amazing! And to top it all off I was told this morning that due to being in oz experience the night was free, kerching! Made the most of the empty hostel today and just had a very lazy day on the sofa. Went and had a stroll across the beach but the rain made it a pretty icky walk!! Had my first random meeting of the trip... Someone I sat with at dinner in the hostel tonight lives next to the Rack and Manger, a shut down pub about a minute from where I live - creepy! After dinner I headed up to the beach to see the singing ship, and as soon as I was there I was extremely glad I had company as it was pretty eerie. Nice to see it though and we also went past the shell beach - no sand, just shells!! Very pretty in the day :)
Gearing myself up for tonight's coach to airlie beach. With a cyclone warning due for Tuesday, I have to say I'm a little skeptical about going to the Whitsundays.... That's if the trip is running?! We will see! Not too happy looking at the nice sunny weather forecast in Winchester.... enjoy it!! Amy x
