Had a really nice day today. The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was quite windy but I was still able to head out in just my cardigan.
Instead of heading towards downtown we walked the opposite way today in search of Casa Loma. It was a really nice walk with lovely shops, and we passed the ROM- Royal Ontario Museum which we're going to on Friday. There are lots of museums and galleries around here that we both want to go to including shoes and textiles!
It probably took us around 30 minutes to walk to Casa Loma. It is spanish for house on the hill and was the former estate of Sir Henry Pellatt who was a 'prominent Toronto financier, industrialist and military man'. Pellatt got the ideas for the mansion from touring the castles in Europe and had the mansion designed for him by architect E.J Lennox. It has 98 rooms and even back in 1911 it cost $3.5million!! Less than 10 years later however, 'financial misfortune forced him and his wife to abandon their castle home'.
It was a beautiful building and certainly stands out as there is nothing else like it in Toronto.
It has been turned into a museum and you get to look around the rooms and gardens which was lovely. That took us a few hours to do.
We got out fairly late again today so we only really had time to see Casa Loma. There are still lots of things we want to see and do here.
