Loving San Cristobal. Could easily spend a week here just wandering about & trying out different cafes, bars and helaterias. Most amount of European tourists seen since my plane trip. Particularly loving the hippie French.
Spent day wandering all over the town, from Guadalupe Church with it's neon alter, to the artisan Market. Did a spot of shopping & am delighted to admit I bought a gorgeous leather handbag which cost 6 quid after my bartering :).
In the afternoon visited Na Bolom (House of the Jaguar in the Mayan language of the Lacodones). Please see blurry photo! House owned by Frans Blom (1st western archaeologist to be given permission to excavate Palenque) & his other half, Trudy (who worked to preserve the culture & rainforest home of the indigenous jungle peoples). Na Bolom was an amazing place full of history, art & a library full of books on the Maya that people come from all over the world to study.
Tomorrow our group leaves for Palenque. Can't wait to visit the ruins & finally stay in the jungle. Am trying hard not to picture the spiders & snakes who will also be staying there!
