We've been enjoying our week here at South Johnstone, the 'Canecutter's Way' and 'Cassowary Coast' regions. The property here is 10 acres of beautiful exotic fruit trees. It's like walking in your own 'Garden of Eden', picking and eating a variety of delicious fruits straight from the tree while strolling down the lush, green grass to the stream below (no snakes, thank goodness!). We're staying here until the end of the week to help with the last few days of picking and sorting the rambutans. In the meantime, we had a lovely day out with our hosts to Etty Bay to spot a cassowary. Apparently they are often seen here on the beach as the rainforest meets the sea. Unfortunately not on the day we were there! But...we did end up seeing a male with its chick at someone's property on our way home which was great. We also spent Sunday in Cairns to re-connect with a couple we had met on our 'Canning' trip last year. Trevor is pastor of an Anglican church in Cairns, so we attended their service and enjoyed lunch out at the marina with Trevor & Sue, and their friends, Steve & Sandy. We've also ventured south to Mission Beach for a swim (in the stinger nets) and explored the lovely town of Tully - home of the 'Golden Gumboot'! At least the rain has now stopped and we're enjoying the beautiful days and cooler evenings.
