Arrived at our friends place at South Johnstone on a rainy Wednesday afternoon to find them sorting and packing the rambutans they had picked that morning. We last saw Marianne & Lance 26 years ago while travelling through on our way to settle in Brisbane! They have a great property in the hinterland of Innisfail and farm a variety of exotic tropical fruits. They also have a couple of Swedish travellers, Jorgen & Ida working with them for the week under the 'WWOOF' scheme (willing workers on organic farms).
The following day, we all got up early to pick rambutans from the trees - the weather started off okay but then increased to pouring rain, so we were all soaked to the skin! After a shower and a cuppa we got stuck into washing, sorting and packing the rambutans for shipping. Good teamwork meant we finished early! If youre wondering what rambutans are then do a google search!! - they are a hairy looking red fruit, and when the skin is opened it reveals a round white fleshy fruit similar to a lychee. Very delicious!
