Continuing north from Dubbo on the homeward run, we have taken some of the less travelled roads as they are often so much more picturesque and a lot of the towns have an 'old world' charm.
One area we drove through was the Kaputar National Park, which had some steep, windy sections as well as quite a few water crossings - good to wash the underside of the van and car! We came across emus, kangaroos and cows and went for a nice walk to see "Sawn Rocks" - a rocky outcrop with organ-pipe shaped rocks. We ended the day with a drink around a warm fire at a nice camp spot on the Gwider River at Bingara.
The nights have been pretty cold in western NSW; 1-3 degrees at night....brrrrr! We stopped at the lovely city of Inverell, known as the 'Sapphire City'. Such a vibrant hub with lovely old buildings and streets.
From there, we hit the town of Texas, on the Queensland border! Hooray ...... we are now in Queensland and almost home! We had a night stop at the tiny town of Cecil Plains and met a lovely christian couple there to share our fire with.
Now, for our last push home, we planned that we would stay in Benarkin, just out of Kilcoy, which is where we spent our very first night at the beginning of this adventure trip around Australia! We plan to leave early and surprise Mum & Dad at their usual Thursday morning coffee time tomorrow morning. I made some vanilla slice to share!
