After planning on going to Versailles today we did a lot of things that weren't go to Versailles. We kinda slept in this morning and it was a little bit wet and cold outside thus our absence from the palace. We thought it would be good to see the wax museum (not Madame Tussaud's) but it turns out the place is closed for a week to refurbish. Then we thought it would be good to see the catacombs but the line to get in was at least an hour or so long so we skipped that. We settled on the Pantheon, the church of St. Genevieve (patron saint of Paris) which was deconsecrated after the French Revolution. It became the burial place for many great Frenchmen after Victor Hugo decided to be buried here. The people buried here included Alexandre Dumas, Pierre and Marie Curie, Emilie Zola, Voltaire and many others who I'd never heard of. Our luck then continued as we were able to see the monument commemorating the storming of the Bastille (mostly because it's in the middle of a roundabout). What was also becoming apparent was that there is a few strikes or pickets in Paris. We saw two today and they were all wearing high-vis vests which I though was funny, the first groups were all yellow and the seconds were orange. Musee d'Orsay was next, and while it was nowhere near as good as the Louvre (that's right, I said it) it was still interesting. I think I'm thoroughly arted out though after having seen Tate Modern, Musee d'Orsay and the Louvre all in one week. So after seeing more masterpieces we moved on to Montparnasse Tower, which is essentially like Eureka Tower but shorter and which better views. We were there at sunset so we saw the sun setting over Paris, pretty much directly behind the Eiffel Tower. Very romantic stuff. Then the lights came on and everything got even more romantic. It was a very good way to end the day and essentially our Paris trip. Also what did me and Sal do with all this romance in the air? We got in a blue about something trivial. How sweet. So we are pretty much finished with Paris (although another day or to would have been handy) and we will be leaving behind the world of baguettes, brasseries and Bordeaux's for the world of beefeaters, bacon butties and Buckingham tomorrow. So until then au revoir and adieu from the city of lights
