As I said in my last blog, I was going to do today in a new one or else it would have been to long.
So today was bonkers! We saw pretty much every site you would want to see in Paris but didn't do much actual stuff with them (climbing the Eiffel Tower etc.). We started the dag by going to Notre Dame cathedral and it was impressive some stats are it took 204 years to build, is 35 meters high at the bell towers and Quasimodo was real. The inside was so opulent it gave you a good idea how rich and powerful the clergy was back in the 1100's. It is an awe inspiring place whether you are catholic, religious or none of the above. We then moved on to the Eiffel Tower where amongst seeing this structure (which is thicker than I thought it would be) we almost saw a race war break out between Indian trinket sellers and Sudanese trinket sellers. We then drove around and from the bus saw the Arc d'Triomphe, Musee d'Orsay, the Invalides, Concorde, Musee Louvre, Joan of Arc statue, the military academy and the opera house. We were then left to our own devices for 4.5 hours so Sally and I went and caught the metro (which is surprisingly easy considering we don't speak any French) back to the Arc d'Triomphe. It is SO detailed it's hard to explain (Sal's photos will make it easier) and the traffic around it is madness. We then wandered down the Champs Élysées and grabbed some lunch and headed back to Louvre to eat it. We then wandered over to the Palais Royale and basked in the opulence for a bit. After that we wandered up Rue Opera to the opera house where we would meet our group to go to Montmartre and see Sacre Coeur basilica. Montmartre was by far the busiest place we visited today and was worth it, the basilica is surreally white on the outside and so serene and quiet inside. The detail and paint work was amazing especially over the pulpit where a big fresco of Jesus is painted on the roof. So our days been ok, how about yours? We are lucky we are coming back to experience these things in more detail towards the end of our trip. So we are off to have a big slap up dinner featuring frogs legs and the rest tonight and then to Bordeaux tomorrow for the night (should be able to sneak a few cheeky reds). Hope your all well and sal sends her love
Peace out
