Yesterday was our day and night in the desert riding camels.
For the first half of the day we wondered round and explored Jaisalmer's impressive hill top, which as you approach the town appears to rise out of the desert like a strange mirage.
After an hours drive further into the desert we mounted our camels and set off for the dunes to watch the sunset. It quickly occurred to us that camels were neither fast or comfortable! Ange's camel had what she described as the loudest bell ever round its neck and my camel was all kinds of uncomfortable and painful.
The sunset was beautiful and it was an interesting experience. However as is often the case with these animal experiences it's hard to figure out how well the animals are treated and what their quality of life is like, this does detract from the experience quite a bit!
Once the sun had disappeared for a another night we switched camels and headed back Ange all most immediately realised that the bell on her camels was much easy to tolerate than the discomfort my camel provided.
Food along with traditional Rajasthani music and dancing entertained us until it was time for bed in some awesome private tents in the middle of nowhere. Sunrise was unfortunately not as spectacular as Sunset but was a good start to day for yet more exploration of Jaisalmer's golden fort.
