We have just spent the previous 2 nights here in Bundi, a small town in southern Rajasthan. We are up early, 7am, to leave for our next two nights in ranthambhore where we will visit the national park and do some tiger spotting as well as deer, cantalope, and multiple species of birds
Yesterday was easily the best day we have had in India so far; we rented a motorbike and just drove around aimlessly and explored! Not just around the town but we also got quite far out of town and into rural areas with small villages and farms! We turned down roads and tracks that we had no idea where they where going and got lost on purpose thankfully we had my sense of direction to get us back. Although we very nearly ran out of petrol on the way back we returned to the hotel safe. Impressive because of the poor quality of the road surface, the constant cows, goats and monkeys that must be dodged and the fact that it was the first time I had ridden a manual bike for more than a few hundred metres!
We got a short taste of "fame" strolling through villages that probably don't see many white faces as the reaction from quite a few people was often jaws dropping as they stopped and stared. Children waved and shouted some men smiled and some simply looked confused, often much to or enjoyment!
The bike for the day, helmets and enough fuel for atleast 100km's cost us 400 rupees (about £4 or $7) less than a lot of museums, palaces or temple entry. While we have done similar things in Vietnam and loved it, it was a completely different experience doing it in India.
