There is not a cloud in the sky as we say goodbye to Alice Springs. We head to Kings canyon via Ernest Giles road, a 100 km unsealed road. It's bumpy and corrugated at times but Mark enjoys driving the road and it cuts a lot of time off the trip today.
We stop at Kings Creek station hoping to book a tent site. It is school holidays and the place is full of school groups. We decide to head to Kings Canyon resort. We are happy with our decision and find ourselves a nice grass spot and put up our tent.
We bump into a friend William made in Alice Springs, Patrick and his family while exploring the campsite so spend the evening chatting with them.
The following morning we head to Kings Canyon and do the Kings Creek walk which takes us through the floor of the canyon. Impressive red rock walls tower above us on all sides.
The famous walk here is the Kings Canyon rim walk however the climb to the rim is steep and not possible with the kids. Mark returns to do the walk later in the afternoon while I look after the kids. The vertical climb is hard work and once at the top you follow a track around the perimeter of the canyon often right on the edge of the sheer cliff faces.
We still have some steak from our favourite butcher in Alice Springs. I cook dinner for the kids which goes a bit like this. Emily chucks her bowl of food on the floor. I clean her up and put her in her cot so that I can finish cooking. She is crying so William starts crying. They stop crying. William bites his tongue and starts crying again. Mark arrives home...
Mark is hugely disappointed when he goes to cook his piece of steak. He realises that his delicious rib eye steak is missing from the fridge. After further investigation it turns out that I have accidentally put it in the freezer when getting the peas out - oops!
The dingoes wander around the camp at night and we even spot them during the day. I spot a dingo sizing up Emily to see if she is a threat. They are eyeing each other. There doesn't seem to be any issues but I am not keen to leave her be so grab Emily!
After Mark has finished his steak Emily wakes and he goes to see her. When he returns the bone has gone, swiped by a dingo!
