First full day in London so we did a hop on hop bus tour. Given it was 28 today it was a by good idea. The open top double deckers are the way to go for looking at all the sites. What makes them even better is your ticket lasts technically 2 days. Aside from getting off outside Hamley's we just cruised around all day. Ironically Sally wasn't over the moon about getting off just to look at a toy store yet she was the only one to buy something. We couldn't do the full tour down the Mall as the Parlympics Marathon was on. What it did mean though was we got some good shots of Tower Bridge.

We did our own thing today which meant we had a look at the new Bomber Command Museum (first use of the Underground) and then used our tour ticket to pick up the bus again to Harrods and then back to the hotel.
Caught the Underground again this evening to go and see We Will Rock You. The show was great, had seen the Perth production a few years ago but this one was better. It was good to see how they kept it up to date with references like iPlanet and the passing of Amy Winehouse. Most enjoyable way to spend the evening.

Sally has now gone back to Brighton so we did the Imperial War Museum and the Garden Museum.
aside from the Naval guns out the front the IWM was nothing like I remembered it from when i visited it as a kid. It's focus now is obviously more around telling stories and being a repository for military history. Whilst I wasn't disappoint I was glad I had seen whilst we were in London and not made a special trip up from Maidstone.
The Garden Museum was a little different, located in an old church on Lambeth Road it tries to show the history of gardening and plant collection over the years in England. For a museum that relies on donations and not government funding it was well put together. The little vegetarian cafe had great food and the displays were good in that they showed things like the history of the lawn mower rather than focusing on large historical gardens. The other interesting about the church was that it is the resting place of Captain Bligh (from the Bounty).
