Arrived in Franz Josef after taking a tour around a cute museum/farm called the Bushman centre. We saw pigs, eels, and possums which were very cute - shame about the possum pie in the cafe - NO JOKE! :( We learnt how deer were caught by kiwi's jumping out of planes - MENTAL! This is how all the deer farms in NZ were started.
At Franz Josef we went straight away to do a glacier walk and heli hike - AMAZING! Bennett nearly wet herself she was so excited! :) The Helilcopter ride was out of this world and the view was something else - none of us had been in a helicopter before so it was a great experience! We had two hours walking on the glacier so were kitted out with ice picks, crampons and sexy boots. We climbed up, squeezed through, crawled under different ice formations - incredible, nothing like the ski fields D and R were expecting.
Next day while those that still had their glacier hike to do we went on a 4.5 hour tramp around the glacier valley. We saw lots of native rainforest - weird as its not warm quite cold infact! We were naughty and when got to the start of the track it was closed due to construction and machinery. We had walked 5km and so didnt want to turn back and went under the barrier anyway ha ha! When we got back we went in the hot tub in the rain to soothe our aching muscles. That evening we chilled out with the lads and went to sleep to refresh ourselves ready for the next day.
