Rome has been great, you are immersed in history whichever way you turn. We were sad to move on from Chianciano Terme on Friday, it had such a wonderful feel about this town, very relaxed. On the way to Rome we stopped at Tarquinia where we had a tour of the Etruscan tombs there as well as the Archaeological Museum. Both places were great, lots of relics & information by our excellent guide. We really got a sense of life in those times, especially of how keen they were to prepare well for the afterlife with their tombs. In Rome we had a quiet few hrs before going on an informal walking tour late afternoon with some of friends, Fonti', Pikes etc. We went to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon & finally shared a lovely dinner in the Piazza Navona. Up early on Saturday to beat the crowds at the Vatican, amazing with its artistic treasures. From there to the very grand St Peter's Basilica followed by an easy lunch then some sight seeing on the bus on the way to our destination of the Colosseum/Forum. It's great to imagine how it was in it's heyday though I don't think the Gladiator battles & carnage would have been my thing. After some downtime we had our final group dinner at a lovely restaurant in a very smick part of town. Has been a great time both on our Country Roads of Italy Tour as well as our overall visit to Italy over the past month. Sadly Arrivederci Roma!
