We arrived in Paris on Sunday afternoon from Rome. I was sitting next to a beautiful older lady who turned out to be a famous French actress of days gone by, called Macha Meril. She was delightful & friendly. That evening she was dining with the Australian director was looking for her to play a small part in his latest film about a young Australian/Jewish boy who was retracing his roots. We even shared a taxi with her & she gave us her ph no in case we needed anything during our stay. Our apartment for the week is in the Marais district, Rue de Rosier, with the Jewish quarter on one side & the gay community on the other so quite an eclectic mix. We love the area with it's small streets & interesting food shops. We're also blown away by the amazing clothes shops here, very impressive to a couple of Lismore locals! Our apartment though small is well appointed. Sunday afternoon had an amazing feel to it as all the nearby streets were pedestrian only & were filled with an array of shoppers. We are centrally located within a km of the Louvre. On Monday we did an open top bus tour around the old part of the city to check out the historical sights in the morning then spent from lunchtime til closing at the Louvre, a massive & amazing museum with array of displays. As we'd seen our fill of Roman & Etruscan history in Italy we focussed on the French masters & Egyptian antiquities. We finished our day with a lovely meal in a cafe close by to 'our place'. Today after some ph calls home we have spent from late morning on sight seeing with our focus being The Eiffel Tower. How good was that, we climbed the lower section of 500+ steps then caught the lift to the top viewing deck. Quite an experience for us both, Charlie did well as not that keen on heights. There we took plenty of photos as well as shared a champagne to mark the occasion. Now back at our apartment Charlie's cooking me a duck confit dinner with produce we sourced at a local Market earlier today. Tough life!
