The world is my school. This morning my classroom was, in a jet boat building, in the South Island, NZ. This afternoon my classroom was, on a raft in Skippers Canyon rapids.
Yawning and stretching, I slowly wake up. I brush my teeth and do more yawning and stretching. Then go to breakfast and even more yawning. Then stretching. Droopily we make it to the station to catch a bus. We check in and wait around 5 minutes for it. Finally, it shows up. We hop on to the bus and set off. Bored, bored, bored, I am waiting for this annoying safety footage to stop. Finally it's done and we've arrived to the? Umm… Oh, right, only the most famous jet boat place in the world! No big deal! Only the Queen, George Lucas, and many other famous people have been here and all done the jet (except for the Queen of course)!
We have to put on this funky rubbery, plastic cover-over and a lifejacket. We got on our boat and had a crazy ride. I learnt that when you are getting trained to be a jet boat driver, you have to have at least 80 hours of training. At the centre that we were at, they have the drivers train for 120 hours, just in case. We were tossed around in the jet boat and we did what the Shotover company is famous for. 360 spins!
We had a blast there but I can't wait till we go rafting! I'm going rafting with family adventures so it should be real safe.
This time it wasn't a quick bus ride to the centre, it was an hour long, but I was so excited for the rafting, the ride went by really quick! The drive was over Skippers Pass which is a narrow pathway with no gate next to the drop off. If the driver made one silly turn we would all be dead. There was one place that they called bad joke corner and I made a contribution. It was an adventure. Once we got to the rafting gear place, it looked a little bit more like a house. Anyway we went inside to find out that it was built for a bungee jumping company. Once we put our stuff down, we were handed a wetsuit, wet boots, and a splash jacket. Everyone put these on then headed outside for snacks. While we were eating our snacks we were given life jackets. Lastly on our way out, we were given helmets for head protection. We got back in the van for a little, 5 minutes to get to the river, and put all our gear on. Once we were all dressed and ready, we sat down in the water to hear the safety instructions. I was chosen to be an example in the instructions, I was used for if you fall out of the boat, how to get pulled in. Someone would be in the boat to grab on to your life jacket and haul you back in, but in doing so, the hauler had to flip you over at the same time, so you down drown in the boat. The guide said that would be very embarrassing. Once we hit the river we had a blast. We stopped at a calm pool and did some cliff climbing and jumping. There were three sections on the cliff- low, medium and high. I went on the medium and cannon balled off. They call cannon balls bombing in New Zealand!
We just got off and so wished that we would go down some bigger than 5cm waterfalls. I was thinking 3ft at the least! Well, I'm a thrill seeker.
That was another great day, but I can't wait for the next one!
The Bell is out!
