The world is my school. This is my classroom, a campervan in the South Island, New Zealand in-between the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea. I had a three-hour car ride going from the East of the island all the way to the West.
We finally made it to Greymouth, which is near our destination but still not there. We eventually decide to stop and check the place out. In doing so, we found a place called Pancake Rocks and Blowholes. Of course we go in. We have a 5-minute walk till we get to the Pancake Rocks. These are rocks that are flat and stacked on top of each other. Scientists have a theory that dead sea animals formed into little thin stacks, then from there an uplift started from the earth that made mountains and once that was done there was erosion and only the parts made out of a certain material stayed and the parts between them washed away so they really look like pancakes stacked up high. We were truly amazed by that theory but my Mom and Dad both think that it was lava rock layers over non lava rock layers and after millions of years the non lava rock parts eroded.
We kept walking down the black sidewalk and I practically ran into the sign for the Blowhole in the Pancake Rocks. Unfortunately it was not high tide so it didn't erupt. But if it was, the water would've come in one side underneath the rocks then it wouldn't have anywhere to go, so it goes up. Later on the trail we saw a rock that was big at the top but tiny at the bottom and I kept on thinking it was going to fall over. My mom kept on saying that she wished she was there when it did and whoever was actually there would be very lucky. Once we got back on the road we were searching for a place to stay for hours. We found one freedom camping spot that looked perfect and even started out on a beach hike only to soon be swarmed by little bugs that looked like they were going to bore holes into the screens. We finally found another regular campsite but it was closed…that happened 100 times again! Once we were at the 101st one, a nice man said to us that the one across the street was open. We rushed over there and found a place.
I fell right asleep.
