A quite first week of our final few days left in Melbourne, we made it to the movies Friday evening to catch the MJ flick – ‘This is it’ the concerts look like they would have been show stopping!!!
Wilsons Prom
On the 5th & 6th Wolfie went camping with Paul to Wilsons Prom a little over 2 hours south east off Melbourne. We went after a night shift so Wolfie slept most off the way (Paul hadn’t been working), we arrived early afternoon to Tidal River the main town and went for a walk to squeaky beach after setting up camp we seen lizards basking in the sun and some creaking gang-gang cockatoos. Arriving at squeaky beach it really did squeak like running a finger across clan plate type squeak, the sand was white and the glare was crazy lucky for sunglasses, we walked the length of the beach laughing at the kookaburra that robbed paul of his lunch earlier in the afternoon a salami sandwich he was half way through the brazen bird swooped and in one motion dropped the bread retained the meat and downed the meat on landing.
After the walk it was BBQ time and Paul had bought plenty off nice food to the party we had steaks, chips, spuds, avocado amongst other things. As we were washing up afterwards the wombats had started to come out and search for food we stopped and watched one on the way to climb Mt Oberon for the sunset. After the climb we sat upon the rock and watched the amazing spectacle and a bunch of kids prating around pretending to dangle over the edge off the drop-off. We were soon in bed after walking down the mountain in the dark (neglecting to take a torch with us), ready for our huge 36km walk on the Friday. A 6am start the next day and after prepping lunch and the bags, showered and dressed we reached the saddle car park ready for our mammoth daily adventure. The first part of the walk was through recently damaged bushfire areas the charred black tree trunks were already sprouting leaves, there were flowers blooming and plants and grasses returning. We saw the odd wallaby feeding and crashing though the undergrowth as the bush turned into sub-tropical type forest which was nice to be shaded from the sun. It was mid morning when we reached the 2km boardwalk out to sealers cove an amazing secluded beach away from the masses, the water was crystal clear and the sand white and clear, we briefly stopped for a bite to eat and a break after crossing the small stream reapplying the fly spray to keep the giant sandflies from biting us. An open sun exposed rocky outcrop / headland as next to get to refuge cove another gorgeous untouched beach in the middle of no where Wolfie had a sleep on the rock whilst Paul paddled in the clear cool waters. On leaving we passed through a small swampy area and caught a glimpse of a deadly tiger snake whipping into the bushes. We passed another small beach much more beautiful than the last.
Finally after another long exposed outcrop we came to waterloo bay our final beach and turned inland across a low lying sandy walk for a couple of km, climbing the dunes with still a little over 10km to go we drank the last of out water not good but thankfully the sun was dropping behind the mountains offering some relief. Reaching the gravel road north following the walk though the bent trees off an old firestorm we dragged our feet slowly back to the saddle car park reaching the car 11hr and 10m after leaving. As paul was on the late Saturday, feeling tired and thirsty we decided to pack up and head back to Melbourne instead of staying the extra night.
Saturday 7th November we had a spring clean in the flat prepping for hopefully showing new tenants around and on a stonkingly hot Sunday we had a day out at the Melbourne Zoo which was pretty cool just the other side of the children’s hospital. Loads of amazing animals and we had a huge feast of a lunch with Mary and Marika. The following weekend we had a night in with jenny and liam watching bruno with a thai takeaway. Saturday and Sunday Wolfie was working so Corinne had lunch with sarah and went to a perfume party on the Sunday in Dandenong!
Monday 16th was our final week in work dawning on us that we were actually going to be laving Melbourne, something that we would probably keep putting off unless there were numerous weddings to attend the following year. Following a week off final packing and getting the mega parcels ready to go home we reached Friday. Corinne set off for work and had a nice last day coming home with cards and presents. Wolfie was on an early shift and took cookies and rocky road in for an afternoon tea, a patient made a card and another gave a nice card and present for us to remember our time in Melbourne by. The evening was spent at the Belgian beer garden around the corner from the flat having a few beers and bottles of wine (in jennys case)’ with all our new found friends, it was REALLY NICE of everyone to come out THANKS.
Saturday 21st was spent grabbing a few last minute pressies and souvenirs from the vic markets and city shops. The evening we spent with jenny at the flat and some dominos pizza watching movies. Jenny had a little to much pizza and when she went to go to bed in collapse to we helped her out by chucking it outside. We had a big day out planned on the Sunday which all went royally up in flames with the rain lashing down for most of the day, we did however go around to see Mary and Marika for a lovely traditional greek meal complete with ouzo it was so nice to have the dinner with them after all the nice days out during our time in the city.
Mornington Peninsula
On Monday 23rd Corinne headed to one of her nurseries to say her goodbyes and in the meantime Wolfie picked up the car our home till early January. We moved out off our room and loaded the car up, posted a couple of parcels and left for Nicole A’s (a very nice person that Wolfie works with who let us house sit) house in Mt Eliza on the Mornington P. Was a gorgeous house in an amazing location we had arrived late so made some dinner and watched a movie on the massive TV screen WOW!
We spent Tuesday 24th exploring the area stopping at Mornington (beach house’s), sunnyridge strawberry farm, Cape Schanck and Sorrento before heading back for a BBQ with Paul.
Finally on Wednesday morning after another breakfast outdoors we headed back into the city for the tax appointments and dropped the parcels off at the couriers.
BACK in Melbourne
We spent our last day in Melbourne out and about in the city taking in a little shopping and soaking up the atmosphere for the last time. In the evening we had a roast with Jenny and Liam and said goodbye to Paul before hitting the sack ready for the drive west the following day.
