Jeff and I both had to work a bit this morning, and we went to a breakfast at the resort as they tried to sell us on their vacation packages. Lucky for us one of my best friends in the world used to spend her summers here as a kid, so she filled us in on all the coolest places to be around the island, helping us plan our week.
We are in between wanting to see everything and wanting to enjoy and relax during vacation, which is new for us. We work hard and play hard and rarely stop for two minutes to do anything but gear up for our next adventure. Kauai is much more relaxed and slow paced, and it doesn't matter what we are doing, we are enjoying.
We went all over the Princeville area to Hanalei and down to Kapa'a today. I loved Hanalei, it is an old surf town and one of my favorite little towns so far. We went up to the top of the road as far as we could go into a park with caves and hiking trails, and down to Kapa'a and finally settled along the coast to snorkel before dark.
Jeff and I explored the coastline and shells while the kids snorkeled. They saw trumpet fish, fish like dory, and huge pools of reflector fish both totally clear and clear with red stripes. Close to dark, I saw something huge going through the water, so I made them get out. Malikai said they saw a huge reflector type fish about 3 feet long. I'm not sure if it was that or something else, but I wasn't taking any chances!
Kylie was too scared to venture out very far so she stayed pretty close to shore. She is furious that the boys didn't wait for her or make her go out, which is hilarious if she thinks anyone can talk her into anything, that girl is stubborn! She must get it from her dad.
We grabbed tuna steaks, rice, and honeydew at the local market and headed back to grill at the resort. When we got back to our room, the rice was full of weevils, yum! Luckily we noticed quickly and got that bag out of there fast!
