Today was a blast! We started the day working again while the kids played in the pool with their snorkel gear. The pool is right outside our door which is super nice. The resort is extremely quiet, we haven't seen any other kids. Our spring break must be a week ahead of other areas, or this is really more of an older generation area. The only time we run into other families is on the beach.
Today we ventured over to the other side of the resort and pool, and I discovered my wi-fi works anywhere in the community, sweet! The other pool has a hot tub, is a bit larger, and buts up to the golf course. I have to say the kids were actually very well behaved and I was shocked to get compliments from some of the older ladies about it. What?!? Are you sure you mean my kids? I guess we were the only ones there.
From there we headed out to town to find a beach spot. We stopped at this little thrift store that had beach gear out front, it was a bit of a crazy joint and we ended up taking off without anything. I was sad! Thrift stores are one of our favorite places to buy souvenirs.
We stopped down the coast at a local farmers market to buy fruit, it was super good. The kids gobbled up the sweet lonton fruit and rhumbicon (sp?) they are red spiky fruit with sweet lychee type goodness inside.
After that we hit a beach that entered into a fresh water river from the mountains. The kids got out their boogie boards and caught waves right on the beach. There were tons of logs and a super hairy current, so I was glad they were happy to stay close to shore.
Walking down the beach right next to us was Laird Hamilton and his wife Gabrielle Reese! Pretty crazy, I tried to appear non chalant to snap a couple photos as proof.
Our kids made their way over to the river and found a tree swing across the river. Kylie freaked herself out and had a hard time coming back across. Sweet Narci went and patiently helped her, and a local lady finally coaxed her out of the tree and into the water.
We drove in search of another beach and landed at Hanalei Pier. My favorite spot for sure! We rented surf boards for the kids and taught them how to paddle into the waves. Well, Jeff mostly pushed them into the waves while I tried to snap pictures. Narci was a natural, standing up on his first wave.
Kylie and Malikai followed quickly after and they all proclaimed that is what they wanted to do every day from now on, they are all in love with surfing.
Once darkness hit, we found a pizza spot and ordered pizza and soup. There was also a fundraiser for the local school selling used books. Everyone except Jeff found a good book and were done for the night.
