Day 13:
The big bang happened and like any fireworks we all went yayyyyyy. After a leisurely morning…well we couldn't get near a washing machine for love nor money, everyone obviously had the same idea. So, we went to explore Boulder, much nicer I thought to Kalgoorlie itself. Buildings lovely and just a nicer feel about it I thought. After a coffee we went on a search for my timber place….hmmmm in the back blocks and chain wire and barbed wire and mess everywhere turned us off so he got out of it again. Onto the Superpit lookout where we oohhhh and ahhhed over the size of it all. This was 11:45 and there was a controlled blast scheduled for 1pm so we went into Kal for some pretty so, so Japanese. Website said funky Japanese with great décor and crisp white tablecloths, ohhh we thought how lovely. Nup, it was old formica tables and very old and daggy. Food was edible - just, and no girls and boys we did not order sashimi in downtown Kalgoorlie, not at all sure it would be fresh, oh Nowra Fresh we miss you.
Anyway, back to the Pit and waited and waited and then sign on screen said cancelled and rescheduled for 5 pm, buga. Back to van to grab a machine and now clothes are all clean again, dust just gets into everything. Half past four came and the van park emptied with cars heading off to the Pit so off we went again. Amazing to see the Pit empty of enormous trucks trundling up and down the roads, all quiet and we waited and one lonely ute was driving around the base around the bits that we thought would go up and suddenly smoke and a delayed boom. Ohh we went is that it but then he took his ute behind some safety and a huge flash and another boom which we all cheered as the rumbling sound was loud and worth the wait. Hey, not much happens in Kalgoorlie for us tourists so we take all we can get. Really need a siren to let us know when it was going to go up but Wally still got some shots.
An explore of the site tomorrow so have to be up early. Xxx love and hugs
